Direct tourism Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in volume terms, increased by 6.1%, compared with real GDP growth of 2.8%. Direct tourism gross value added at basic prices, in volume terms increased by 6.1%, compared to gross value added for all industries which increased by 2.7%.
Internal tourism consumption (total domestic and international consumption in Australia) in volume terms, increased by 6.1%. Of this figure, domestic tourism consumption increased by 4.7% while international tourism consumption grew by 10.1%.

Tourism in Australia continues breaking records
Short-term visitor arrivals during April 2017 (727,600 movements) increased 0.8% compared with March 2017 (722,200 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.7% in February 2017 and March 2017.
The current trend estimate for arrivals is 7.7% higher than in April 2016. During April 2017, short-term visitor arrivals (746,700 movements) increased 4.7% compared with March 2017 (712,900 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 0.2% in February 2017 followed by a monthly decrease of 0.4% in March 2017.
There were 701,300 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in April 2017.
