Launch a career in tourism - QLD Young Tourism Leaders
There’s never been a better time to launch a career in tourism. From hotels, resorts, transport and travel, tourist attractions and adventure tours – the possibilities are endless to build a successful, lifelong career.
Job opportunities range far and wide to include media and marketing specialists, graphic designers, business managers, developers, hospitality roles, tour guides, pilots, flight attendants, cruise industry jobs, boat captains, finance specialists, travel agents and event managers.
With global tourism growth breaking records and Queensland’s tourism industry growing strongly, it’s never been a better time to work in tourism.
Over 20,000 new jobs are expected to be created in Queensland’s tourism industry by 2020. An industry that is worth $25 billion and supports over 225,000 jobs.
The Young Tourism Leaders Program provides influential and inspiring role models to encourage young people to consider a career in the tourism industry.
Our Leaders are young people who’ve found success in the tourism industry, have a wealth of knowledge, experience and advice, and are keen to share the stories of their career journey.
They make presentations in schools, engage with vocational and tertiary students, participate in careers events to promote tourism careers, and actively connect with the tourism industry to promote the skills and talents which young tourism professionals offer.
There are currently 22 energetic and inspirational Young Tourism Leaders who are passionate about helping shape future career pathways for young people in the tourism industry and are keen to make an impact on the future development of Queensland tourism.
The Young Tourism Leaders Program is an initiative of the Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry Development and the Commonwealth Games, supported by the Department of Education.
If you are a school or business group and would like to invite a Young Tourism Leader to speak to your students or members, please contact us at email@example.com.

The Network is a group of volunteer tourism operators that have exhibited best practice in the recruitment and retention of Indigenous employment.
Together with the Champions, QTIC have developed a range of resources for tourism operators, presented at numerous industry conferences, facilitated industry forums, provided tourism industry career path information to Indigenous students and job seekers, and identified Indigenous employment placements within the industry.
