QTIC Salute to Excellence Awards

QTIC proudly hosted the annual Salute to Excellence Awards at the Mercure Brisbane on Friday 22 July, 2016.  Twenty-eight year 11 and 12 students studying tourism and hospitality programs across Queensland’s state, independent and catholic secondary schools gathered with family, friends, school representatives and tourism and hospitality industry leaders to celebrate their achievements at a glittering gala dinner.

Each year, students participating in stand-alone vocational education and training or school-based traineeships in Queensland are judged by a panel of industry leaders representing Queensland’s tourism and hospitality sectors.  Shortlisted finalists attend a Skills Test Day where they demonstrate their skills in an industry-style interview, theory test and practical evaluation.

QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said the Awards program highlights the importance of vocational education and training among secondary schools across Queensland.

“The Salute to Excellence program encourages these graduating students into forging a rewarding and successful career in their chosen industry,” Mr Gschwind said.

“The program demonstrated the industry’s commitment to its workforce and aspiring future leaders.

“The high calibre judges of the Salute to Excellence program gladly share their knowledge with participants.

“This is a highly valuable and critical element of the program where judges provide constructive feedback, encouragement and insight into how students can best shape a career in tourism or hospitality.”

QTIC was overwhelmed by the level of support shown to the students by our industry partners through their generous donation of time and prizes that far exceeded those of previous years.
