William Angliss Institute announced as Finalist in the Australian Event Awards

William Angliss Institute is pleased to announce it has been chosen as a National Finalist in the 2016 Australian Event Awards.

Selected from hundreds of entries across the country by a panel of experts and leaders in the industry, William Angliss Institute’s status as a finalist places it amongst the top achievers in Australia in its category.

The Australian Event Awards recognises the best events in Australia and achievements in the industry by Australians around the world, regardless of event size or audience.

William Angliss Institute has been selected as a Finalist in the Best Education or Training Program category for its outstanding achievements in delivering high quality training from Diploma to Degree for the next generation of event professionals.

To produce graduates who best succeed in the demanding and competitive events industry, the Institute introduced a three year Bachelor of Event Management in 2015.

Manager -Centre for Tourism and Hospitality, Karon Hepner said the Institute’s focus on real event experiences, gives students invaluable opportunities to contextualise their skills to meet the diverse needs of the industry.

“With work placement opportunities, industry partnerships, the WAI Careers Hub, and our Student Support Services network, these partnerships forge win-win arrangements that see the students gain expertise in operational roles in a practical setting, and events benefit from the input of students with valuable know-how.

“Our students work at a wide range of events and festivals including Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, World Vegan Day, Spirit of Anzac exhibition, Ronald McDonald House and World AIDS Day Symposium.
Winners of the Australian Event Awards will be announced at the Novotel Twin Waters Resort on the Sunshine Coast on 21 September 2016.

As the state specialist centre, all of William Angliss Institute’s events courses from Diploma to Bachelor are developed in close consultation with industry. This portfolio of events programs focuses on significant career outcomes for graduates. Students can do from one to four years of training, gaining practical, management and academic skills across many subjects.

Sydney's ICC wins national infrastructure award





Sydney’s International Convention Centre (ICC Sydney) at Darling Harbour has been named Australia’s best infrastructure project at the Infrastructure Partnerships Australia’s National Infrastructure Awards.

Andrew Constance Minister for Transport and Infrastructure welcomed the award saying the ICC was a jewel in the NSW Government’s infrastructure crown.

“I am extremely proud that this Government has delivered a world class transformation to the Darling Harbour precinct with the stunning International Convention Centre at its heart,” Mr Constance said.

ICC Sydney cements Sydney as a premium choice on the world stage for major events that this nation has never before had the facilities to host.

“The NSW Government remains focused on the delivery of infrastructure that transforms our state and has a positive impact on our economy. The ICC certainly delivers on this.”

The $1.5 billion ICC Sydney was recognised for its design excellence, construction timeline and outstanding financial performance as well as delivering the nation a new and emblematic piece of business events and tourism infrastructure.

The convention centre officially opened in December 2016 and has already hosted over 170 major events including the Fast 4 Tennis Showdown and performances by Keith Urban and Nick Cave. The convention centre is also generating significant international interest with 115 global events confirmed for Sydney over the next few years.
