Winners announced at the 2017 R&CA HOSTPLUS National Awards Melbourne gala
The nation’s restaurant, caterer and café of the year were revealed at the 2017 Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS National Awards, held at The Peninsula in Melbourne’s Docklands.
The Artisan Café in Blackwood, South Australia, was named 2017 Café of the Year. Sydney catering company Events By Aria took the gong for 2017 Caterer of the Year. The world-renowned Tetsuya’s Restaurant in Sydney is the 2017 Restaurant of the Year.
Restaurant & Catering (R&CA) CEO Juliana Payne congratulated each of the National Award winners on behalf of the Association, praising their individual contributions to Australia’s hospitality industry.
“The winners of this year’s Awards, both at a national and a state level, have each demonstrated sustained excellence in their craft which we are delighted to recognise here tonight.”

Australian tourism visitor spending reaches new heights
International visitor spending for the 12 month period ending December 2017 grew six per cent to reach a new high of $41.3 billion in 2017, representing an addition of $2.2 billion to the Australian economy.

QTIC Tourism Indigenous Employment Champions Network
The QTIC Tourism Indigenous Employment Champions Network, supported by The Star Entertainment Group, aims to support tourism employers to recruit and retain Indigenous employees. The Network is a group of volunteer tourism operators that have exhibited best practice in the recruitment and retention of Indigenous employment.
Together with the Champions, QTIC have developed a range of resources for tourism operators, presented at numerous industry conferences, facilitated industry forums, provided tourism industry career path information to Indigenous students and job seekers, and identified Indigenous employment placements within the industry.
